Overland Tailor Tuning (OTT) offers comprehensive ECU and TCU recalibrations for Toyota vehicles, focusing on optimizing various parameters to enhance performance, drivability, and efficiency. The specific adjustments made during an OTT tune include:
Engine Control Unit (ECU) Adjustments:
- Mass Air Flow (MAF) Calibration: Adjusting the MAF sensor readings to accommodate larger MAF housings or aftermarket intake systems, ensuring accurate air-fuel mixture calculations.
- Throttle Response Remapping: Modifying throttle curves to improve responsiveness, providing a more immediate reaction to accelerator input.
- Variable Valve Timing (VVT-i) Optimization: Reworking camshaft timing to enhance power delivery and efficiency across various engine speeds.
- Ignition Timing Adjustment: Refining ignition timing to improve combustion efficiency, leading to increased power and better fuel economy.
- Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) Tuning: Adjusting the ACIS to optimize air intake resonance, enhancing torque and horsepower.
- Fuel Map Corrections: Fine-tuning fuel delivery to ensure optimal air-fuel ratios under various operating conditions.
Transmission Control Unit (TCU) Adjustments:
- Shift Point Optimization: Altering the RPM at which gear shifts occur to maintain the engine within its optimal power band.
- Shift Pressure Modulation: Adjusting hydraulic pressure during gear changes to improve shift firmness and reduce lag.
- Torque Converter Lockup Calibration: Modifying the engagement and disengagement points of the torque converter lockup to enhance fuel efficiency and drivability.
Additional Customizations:
- Gear and Tire Size Calibration: Recalibrating the ECU to account for changes in gear ratios or larger tire sizes, ensuring accurate shifting.
- Injector Scaling: Adjusting parameters to accommodate larger fuel injectors, ensuring proper fuel delivery.
Rev Hang Elimination (Manual Transmissions): Reducing or eliminating the delay in RPM drop during gear shifts for a more responsive driving experience.

We ensure that all stock ECU files are retained, allowing you to revert your vehicle back to its original factory calibration at any time. Our authorized retailers also keep a copy of your stock file, ensuring easy access if needed.
Additionally, all supplied DIY remote tuning kits include the original stock file, allowing you to restore your ECU to its factory settings whenever necessary.
We require that your ECU calibration be on the latest factory update for most DIY tuning purchases, as we only support the most up-to-date factory calibrations. If your ECU is not already updated, you will need to have this done before applying our tune.
For customers visiting an authorized retailer, this update service will be performed at no additional cost during your tuning appointment. If you have any questions regarding your vehicle’s calibration status or need assistance with an update, please contact us or your nearest OTT retailer.
No, an ECU tune cannot currently correct speedometer discrepancies caused by larger tires on Toyota platforms. The speedometer is not directly controlled by the ECU on these vehicles, making it impossible to adjust through ECU calibration.
To correct speedometer readings, an aftermarket solution such as the Hypertech or Rough Country Calibration Tool is required.
Overland Tailor Tuning (OTT) does not offer services to remove check engine lights (CELs). However, we can rescale Mass Airflow Sensor transfer functions in cases where aftermarket intakes require recalibration, which may resolve related CELs. That said, OTT will NOT turn off CELs or make any changes to defeat emissions equipment.
If the CEL is caused by mechanical or emissions-related issues, it’s important to properly diagnose and address these problems to ensure the vehicle is operating correctly and in compliance with environmental regulations.

NEW! Our 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma 3.5L V6 calibration is now SEMA CE & CARB Executive Order #D-883.
OTT does not alter and/or modify emissions controls, readiness monitors, or make any other changes that would constitute tampering with federally mandated emissions equipment.
Other platforms are currently CARB Pending.
ECU tuning, like any aftermarket part or modification, can potentially affect your vehicle’s warranty. However, under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, manufacturers cannot void your warranty simply because of aftermarket modifications, unless they can prove that the modification caused the issue. Currently, there have been no reported issues or warranty problems related to OTT tunes across multiple platforms.
That said, if you are concerned about your vehicle's warranty, we suggest you refrain from tuning your vehicle. Always consult with your dealership or warranty provider for more information regarding your specific warranty coverage and any potential impacts from tuning or modifications.
Our data shows that the long-term health of your engine will benefit from using high quality fuel from stations such as Mobil, Exxon, Shell, and Sunoco.
• Naturally aspirated vehicles can utilize 87+ octane fuel.
• Supercharged applications must run 91+ octane fuel
• E85 is currently not supported in our applications.
• You can run ethanol free fuel.
The ECU ID of your vehicle will remain stock, but the CVN number will be changed. Any CVN mismatch will alert the dealer or emissions station that the EU has been modified.
No, the different throttle settings are for driver preference only and do not change horsepower, torque or shift points.
OTT does not tune deleted vehicles or vehicles with emissions-related check engine lights. All OTT calibrations are developed using a 5-Gas Analyzer to ensure they are as efficient as possible, while still improving drivability for the customer. Our goal is to provide performance improvements without compromising emissions standards.
