Justin started fuel injection tuning configuring Mazda KL engines for Nitrous and custom forced induction setups in the mid 1990’s progressing into building and tuning higher horsepower Diamond Star Motors (DSM) vehicles into the early 2000’s.
Upon the arrival of the Subaru WRX to the US shores in 2002, Justin Provided Beta-testing and calibration support to TurboXS for the UTEC EMS and developed calibration used to set the stock turbo WRX ¼ mile Record in Colorado in 2004.
Justin continued Subaru calibration development for 2.0L and 2.5L EJ engines using various flashing utilities. In 2005, in partnership with ECM Tuning Inc., Justin developed the first plug-n-play user tunable ECU option to the Mitsubishi Evolution market by retrofitting a 2G DSM ECU into the Evolution VIII chassis. This provided extensive experience developing Mitsubishi 4G63 calibrations with Open Source software. These calibrations provided to national network of vendors were used to set multiple records at drag strips and autocross events across the country.
Justin has specialized in OE ECU calibration for the Mitsubishi Evolution VIII and IX platforms, and is experienced with AEM, Autronic, MoTeC and Halthech EMS systems along with completing 3RZ-FE and 2UX engine swaps that were fully OBD2 compliant.
In 2018, Justin worked directly with HPTuners to develop and test the 2ndGen Toyota Tacoma platform. To date, no one has tuned more 1GR-FE engines with HPTuners than Overland Tailor with over 450 unique and independent calibrations anything from a “stock” truck to a bored/sleeved 4.3L stroker, ported heads, aftermarket camshafts, turbo chargers, etc.
In 2012 John started building Overland Vehicles on the Jeep and Toyota Platforms and has extensive experience on Jeep JK, Land Cruiser 80, 100 and 200 Series vehicles, including 2UZ-FE swaps into 80 Series Land Cruisers.
Along with Overland Builds, John installed and calibrated multiple LSX Engines into Jeep JK platforms using EFI Live and HPTuners to provide emissions compliant and CAN Bus parallel systems running alongside with the GM ECU.
Currently John has been calibrating using VFTuner and HPTuners on the Toyota Platform including 2005-2022 Toyota Tacoma and 2007-2021 Toyota Tundra, 2015-2019 Toyota 4Runner and select other Toyota vehicles.
